Rakhis in India are of different varieties and colours. All the markets would be open and filled with Rakhis and Rakhi gifts in India during the season of Raksha Bandhan.
I, Anu, live in a small town in India. I have two brothers, Ram and Karthi. One of my brother, Karthi is doing his higher studies in Qatar. He visits us once in 6 months. We did not even have telephone connection or a mobile phone at home, so was not able to contact him from India. Whenever he felt like speaking to us, he would ring up to our neighbor and we would then speak to him.
We celebrated Raksha Bandhan every year. I bought Rakhis for my brothers at least a day before the festival and would tie on their wrists. They in turn would bless me and give me gifts. All three of us enjoyed this day with joy and fun.
This year, Karthi is in Qatar and I will not be able to tie a Rakhi to him. I have bought Rakhi for brother Ram but I was wondering how to send Rakhis to Qatar. I was afraid if I would miss the festival and wanted to send him one somehow but could not think of an easy option. There is no international postal service available here.
Fortunately, a friend of mine visited my house and we were having a chat. I told him “I have bought an Indian Rakhi for brother Ram who is at home with me, but I would not be able to send Rakhi to my brother Karthi who lives in Qatar. I’m confused. Do you have any other option?” He suggested an option and that made me fly in the air.
“Don’t you know about Online Rakhis?”, he asked. I was thinking what it was and asked him to explain briefly. He starting speaking, “I have a sister working in US.
She works as a Software Engineer. Last night she called me and told that she would be sending Rakhi to India tomorrow. I asked her “How will you be able to send Rakhi to India within one day”. She told “I’ve bought expensive Rakhis for my brother which would reach shortly”. I was waiting for it and received it the next morning. I was surprised and asked her, “Where she had bought it from in US” she answered, “I’ve bought it from India, through online shopping”.
He taught me how to send online Rakhis and I could send Rakhi gifts and Rakhis for my brother Karthi. Online Rakhis are of different varieties. I selected a traditional Indian Rakhi and sent that Rakhi for brother Karthi Online. I am happy that I could do that.

Raksha Bandhan – the so called Rakhi festival is a special Hindu festival to celebrate the emotional bonding between a brother and a sister. This festival is celebrated by people all over the country and people staying abroad also celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm.
There are many festivals in India celebrated with lights and distributing sweets. Children play a vital role in those celebrations. Raksha Bandhan is also celebrated by most of the kids. We could see children wearing decorative kids Rakhi on their wrists on this special day.
I saw Nithin, a 5 year old boy wearing a Cartoon Rakhi which is beautifully designed. I could make out that it is a specially designed Rakhi for kids. When I asked him who gave this, he replied, “My cousin sent this Rakhi for me from Canada“. For the last two years, my cousin Priya sends me Rakhis to India, he said.
I kissed the boy and went to his house and spoke to his mother. After speaking for a while, I asked her “How did Priya send this beautiful kids Rakhi to India?”.
She replied, “I had a chat with Priya last night and I asked her the same question. She told me that there are various websites used to send online Rakhis to India. Kids usually love wearing decorative Rakhis, made of different colours and pictures. When I browsed through those websites, I found there were various Rakhis specially meant for kids with imaginative designs and shapes that are attractive to kids. I selected a pretty Cartoon Rakhi for Nithin and hope he loves it. There were many collections of Rakhis for children like Cartoon Rakhis, Toy Rakhis, Teddy Rakhis, etc. I know Nithin loves Cartoon a lot, so I have selected a Cartoon Rakhi for him. I have also selected Rakhi gifts and colourful dresses for him”. I hope Nithin likes it and will be happy to receive all those as my gift on Raksha Bandhan. ”
I was very much surprised when I heard that Rakhis for children can be sent online. I browsed through those websites and found many Rakhis designed for elders and Rakhis for children artistically designed with many beads and strings of different varieties, colours and designs for making those little hearts happy. I was very much excited and shared those websites with my fellow friends who live abroad. They thanked me and have also sent their Rakhis online.
